“Local Tectonic Snippet #102”
A painting that evokes the outback fringe, the arid zone I have experienced in the area north-west of Broken Hill, where red earth starts to edge against the yellow sand and scrubland. With nicely flat block colours, I feel this has a real sense of movement and an off-kilter sensibility that shift and shakes, with a thick textural nature that brings a nice sense of substance and soul.
* A note on my "Local Tectonic Series"; this is a style of painting that has pre-occupied me most of the past year or so. These paintings seek to give an impression of the Australian landscape, but do so by not being "descriptive" or figurative. I want these to be works where people can look and find their own meanings within, shifting perhaps each day, evoking a sense of something they may not be able to necessarily put their finger on.
With the sturdy oak frame, they can be hung on a wall or be freestanding on a bench or table etc. All of these come with wire hanging set-up on the back, as per photo.
20cm x 20cm - canvas size
23cm x 23cm - including frame
5.5cm deep
Acrylic on triple-primed canvas in hand-finished oak frame.
Ready-to-hang with wire on back, as per a version of that pictured
*NB. This is a hand-painted/hand-made work. Marks, fades, scuffs, irregularities are all part of the process. I am not striving for "perfection" - I hope you get my drift, with the beauty in the texture/tactile sense...
