The clean yet jagged lines of this really drew me in as I was painting it. It's hard to explain the process of making these works, but I follow intuition and let the shapes and colours, in a way, guide themselves. There is a sense that these paintings already exist and my job is to just articulate them in paint. This definitely had a sense of magic about it, the tilting lines and jagged intrusions of colour offset by areas of negative space really "sing". It's in my favoured 20cm by 20cm size and again despite its small stature, seems to hold an entire world within it. A sense of distance and space, with a real sense of longing embedded within its shape and colour.
* A note on my "Local Tectonic Series"; this is a style of painting that has pre-occupied me most of the past year or so. These paintings seek to give an impression of the Australian landscape, but do so by not being "descriptive" or figurative. I want these to be works where people can look and find their own meanings within, shifting perhaps each day, evoking a sense of something they may not be able to necessarily put their finger on.
With the sturdy oak frame, they can be hung on a wall or be freestanding on a bench or table etc. All of these come with wire hanging set-up on the back, as per photo.
