“Local Tectonic Snippet #110”

A shaky little piece that has a special "something". A nice sense of idiosyncrasy and a feeling that the landscape is in collision with itself, making a jumbled chaos which nevertheless somehow hangs together beneath the horizon line.

This is a smaller 15cm by 15cm canvas, a size I love painting on because it allows, or perhaps forces, me to take a "less is more" approach, not to overwork things but to let the colour and shape create its own mean. With this rusty orange evoking the desert sands combined with the sweet blues and greens which could echo ocean and scrubland (is this a Nullarbor-adjacent scene??), this has a lovely spirit and heart.

* A note on my "Local Tectonic Series"; this is a style of painting that has pre-occupied me most of the past year or so. These paintings seek to give an impression of the Australian landscape, but do so by not being "descriptive" or figurative. I want these to be works where people can look and find their own meanings within, shifting perhaps each day, evoking a sense of something they may not be able to necessarily put their finger on.

With the sturdy oak frame, they can be hung on a wall or be freestanding on a bench or table etc. All of these come with wire hanging set-up on the back, as per photo.

15cm x 15cm - canvas size
18cm x 18cm - including frame
5.5cm deep
Acrylic on triple-primed canvas in hand-finished oak frame.
Ready-to-hang with wire on back, as per picture

*NB. This is a hand-painted/hand-made work. Marks, fades, scuffs, irregularities are all part of the process. I am not striving for "perfection" - I hope you get my drift, with the beauty in the texture/tactile sense...
